The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have introduced a one-time verification arrangement for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates will pay ₦4,000 once to verify their WAEC West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results through the JAMB-provided Verification Service platform.
The development was contained in a joint statement issued by WAEC and JAMB and signed by Moyosola F. Adesina, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, Yaba, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
One verification for multiple admission purposes
According to the two examination and admission bodies, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will only be required to verify their WAEC results once.
Following successful verification, the outcome will be made available to the tertiary institution to which the candidate seeks admission.
The institutions are expected to use the verified results for admission screening, processing and other relevant administrative purposes.
Consequently, candidates will not be required to pay another verification fee to their chosen institutions.
WAEC and JAMB said the arrangement was reached after a series of meetings and consultations aimed at streamlining the verification process.
Candidates to pay ₦4,000
The joint statement clarified that the verification fee is ₦4,000, payable only once through the designated platform.
Candidates are specifically advised not to make the payment through their institutions of choice.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
The bodies said the arrangement was designed to eliminate the need for candidates to repeatedly verify the same O’Level result for different admission processes.
Home-based verification
A major feature of the new arrangement is that candidates can initiate the verification process from their homes or any location with internet access.
WAEC and JAMB said this would reduce the inconvenience and costs associated with repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
Candidates who successfully complete the verification through the JAMB-provided Verification Service will therefore be able to use the verified result for relevant admission processes without undergoing another verification exercise.
The two organisations encouraged admission seekers to take advantage of the arrangement by completing their verification once and retaining the benefit for subsequent admission-related processes.
WAEC and JAMB said the collaboration was intended to put candidates’ interests at the centre of the admission process by reducing unnecessary costs, simplifying procedures and minimising repeated verification, while preserving the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
