WAEC denies withholding Kano results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied news reports that it withheld results of candidates from Kano State who wrote the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2020.
Guardian Newspaper particularly made the report claiming that over 70,000 candidates had their results withheld because the government failed to remit candidates’ results.
A statement signed by WAEC spokesperson, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu dismissed the report.
Read the statement below.
The attention of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria has been drawn to a publication in online media, alleging that the results of candidates from Kano State were being withheld as a result of the indebtedness of the Kano State Government to the West African Examinations Council.
There is no iota of truth in this allegation, whatsoever.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Council wishes to state that the results of candidates of Kano State origin were released alongside those of other candidates on Monday, November 2, 2020.
The Kano State Government is not in any way indebted to the Council. The results of candidates from the State were never, and are not, being withheld as alleged.
The West African Examinations Council, therefore, urges the Kano State Government, schools and candidates, parents, and other stakeholders in Kano State to please ignore the publication.
We want to also urge the media to always balance their stories and cross-check their facts before publishing them. For information on Press Releases, Photos, Promotional Events and Adverts, Please Call or Send a Text to 09052129258, 08124662170 or send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
