The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced full readiness for the conduct of the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for school candidates in Nigeria, with results expected to be released within 45 days after the last paper and certificates issued within 90 days.
This move aligns with a mandate by the Federal Ministry of Education on all examining bodies in Nigeria to switch to CBT from 2026. It marks the second CB-WASSCE conducted in the year and the first ever for School Candidates.
The examination body disclosed this during its pre-examination press briefing on Monday in Lagos by its Head of National Office, Amos Dangut, where it outlined new digital innovations and support services introduced to ensure a seamless, credible and transparent examination process across the country.
WAEC said digital copies of candidates’ certificates would also be made available through its Digital Certificate platform, further advancing its commitment to modernising examination administration and improving accessibility for candidates and institutions.
As part of efforts to enhance candidate support and improve stakeholder engagement, WAEC introduced several technology-driven platforms designed to simplify access to examination services and information.
Among these is the WAEC Chatbot, which candidates can access through request.waec.org or via WhatsApp on 08179439269 and 07061741253 for instant assistance and enquiries.
The council also highlighted its WAEC Verify platform, which enables institutions to authenticate applicants’ results, and the Centre Locator service, which helps candidates identify examination centres geographically.
To strengthen examination integrity and address malpractice concerns, WAEC said candidates can now submit complaints and representations through its Examination Malpractice Portal hosted on waecinternational.org/complaints.
The council further unveiled additional academic resources to help candidates improve performance ahead of the examination. These include past question papers and answer booklets covering science, arts, commercial and core subjects, as well as Chief Examiners’ Reports, which provide post-examination analysis highlighting candidates’ strengths, weaknesses and common mistakes.
Other learning tools include the WAEC E-Study Portal, which offers access to past questions, marking schemes and performance insights, and the WAEC E-Learning Portal, designed to help candidates address academic weaknesses through structured learning resources.
WAEC also introduced WAEC Konnect, an interactive platform created to foster communication between the council and key stakeholders, including candidates, schools and education administrators.
The council assured Nigerians that all necessary preparations had been concluded for the successful conduct of the examination, stressing that it had strengthened collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, state ministries of education, the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant stakeholders to guarantee a credible and hitch-free exercise.
WAEC expressed appreciation to its partners for their continued support and called on the media to sustain public sensitisation efforts to ensure the success of the 2026 CB-WASSCE.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a transparent, efficient and globally competitive examination process that aligns with evolving technological standards in education assessment.
