Pioneer AAUA VC, Akinyemiju Akindoyeni dies at 80


The pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Akinyemiju Akindoyeni is dead. He was 80 years old.

His death was confirmed by the management of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, where he was a former Director-General of the Institute.

Akindoyeni, a professor of Environmental Sciences, reportedly died on Monday, 15th July 2019 at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness.

“Professor Akindoyeni was the Director-General of the National Institute between 2005 and 2008, during which time he distinguished himself as an academic of repute and a great administrator,” a statement on the institution’s website read.

“Akindoyeni was a Participant of the Senior Executive Course 14, 1992. While on the Course, he played a significant role in the establishment of the NIPSS Chapel of Salvation and served as the Chapel’s pioneer Chaplain.”

“Among his numerous achievements as Director-General, Prof Akindoyeni established the National Institute Consulting as a strategy to deepen the outreach and services of the Institute.”

The don was also a former Chairman of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) and until his death, Chairman, Council of the Institute of Oil and Gas Research and Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS)

The NIPSS described him as selfless and dedicated believing that his quality contributions will remain indelible.
