List of Unity Colleges in Nigeria

Unity colleges are spread across all states and geopolitical regions of Nigeria today. As the name implies, the colleges were meant to be mediums for the promotion unity in Nigeria.

The first sets of unity colleges were established in February, 1976 by the General Yakubu Gowon administration as Federal Government Colleges. Also, some earlier existing pre-colonial schools would also be regarded as unity colleges, like these colleges.

Such colleges were to guarantee national integration and national building among Nigerian children if given the opportunity at a very tender age to live, learn and play together in ideal education environment as provided ab initio by the schools.

Pundits link the existence of these schools to the camaraderie existing among alumni of King’s College and Queen’s College nationally. They exist in forms of either mixed or single sex schools. All Federal Unity Schools have a common motto ‘’Pro Unitatae’’.

Admission into the schools today is through a national common entrance examination conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO) at the end of the either primary or junior secondary education. You may have someone who would like to gain admission into any of these schools. Check out the list below to know the ones near you.
