Efforts to deepen digital learning in Lagos public schools received a boost on Thursday as UNICEF donated 50 additional Airtel 5G Connect routers to the Lagos State Government.

The devices were received by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education as part of an ongoing partnership aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure, improving access to quality education, and equipping students with skills for a technology-driven world.

The presentation, held at the ministry’s conference room, saw 50 beneficiary schools selected from public primary, junior, and senior secondary schools across the state’s six education districts, including the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in line with UNICEF’s criteria.

The latest distribution builds on an earlier phase in which 150 routers were provided to schools, signalling a gradual scale-up of digital connectivity in the state’s public education system.

Officials of Airtel were present to activate the SIM cards, with each participating school set to receive 30GB of free monthly data under the UNICEF-Airtel School Connect programme for as long as the devices remain operational.

Education authorities described the intervention as part of broader efforts to integrate technology into teaching and learning, particularly in public schools where access to digital tools has historically been limited.
