The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied claims that it cancelled the English Language Paper written on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC clarified that no such cancellation was made and described the viral notice on social media as fake and the work of mischief-makers aiming to cause confusion and discredit the Council.
WAEC reaffirmed that official updates are only released through its verified social media handles and accredited media outlets. The Council urged the public and stakeholders to disregard the false report and rely solely on information from authorised WAEC channels.
The examination body reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its processes and thanked stakeholders for their trust over the past 73 years.
