24,416 candidates compete for admission into 110 unity colleges

About 24,416 students who made the 142 cut off marks at the just concluded National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) are jostling for admission into the 110 Federal Government Unity Colleges (FUC).

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2020 selection and placement exercise for qualified candidates in Kano, the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said Sixty percent of this year’s admission into the FUC shall be on merit.

According to him, thirty percent shall be on equality just as ten percent is allocated for exigencies.

He added that “the decision to place greater emphasis on merit is in the best interest of the nation”

“The ministry’s decision to upload the admission list for successful candidates under the sixty percent national merit and thirty percent equality of states within 72 hours of the release of the 2020 NCEE result is to ensure credibility and douse tension in the society, regarding the admission into the FUC’s” he said

In his remarks, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Sonny Echono said six new Science, Technology and Vocational education have been established to provide more opportunities irrespective of parental background or status.

Records from the Federal Ministry of Education shows out of the 76, 580 candidates who sat for the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), only 24,416 met the cut off marks and thus qualify for the selection. ‎
