Wigwe University appoints new acting vice chancellor

The board of trustees and governing council of Wigwe University has announced the appointment of Marwan Al-Akaidi as the acting vice chancellor, following the disengagement of the former vice chancellor, Miles Davis.

The transition was confirmed in a letter signed by Fabian Ajogwu, chairman of the board of trustees, and Julius Okojie, pro-chancellor/chairman of the governing council. The letter expressed gratitude to Davis for his contributions to the university and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.

Appointment of Marwan Al-Akaidi

Marwan Al-Akaidi, who previously served as the dean of the College of Science and Computing and deputy vice chancellor in charge of research and innovation at Wigwe University, has been appointed as the acting vice chancellor effective immediately.

The university’s management highlighted Al-Akaidi’s extensive experience in teaching, research, and leadership across multiple countries in Europe and the Middle East as key qualifications for his new role.

The university management emphasised Al-Akaidi’s demonstrated competence and strong connections with colleagues since joining Wigwe University in January 2024.

They reassured the university community that the transition was carefully planned to ensure stability and continuity.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to Davis for his service to our institution. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” the statement reads.

The profile of Marwan Al-Akaidi

Marwan Al-Akaidi holds a doctorate and is a prominent figure in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

He has extensive research and work experience in the field of electrical and electronic engineering, with significant contributions to the academic community through numerous publications and editorial work.

Prior to joining Wigwe University, he was a professor of Communications Engineering at De Montfort University in the UK.

He has extensive experience in signal processing, wireless communication, and data transmission.

He has contributed to various academic journals and conferences, particularly focusing on vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) and LTE-V technologies for improving vehicle-to-vehicle communication performance.

His research interests include the enhancement of communication systems using OFDM-MIMO techniques and network coding for collaborative data protocols in vehicular environments.

Al-Akaidi’s professional background includes executive roles and a focus on advancing technological research and development within his field.
