The Governing Council of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, has approved the appointment of Mallam Isiyaku Abdullahi (popularly known as Eazee) as the Acting Rector of the institution.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the council held on 16 March 2026. The appointment is pending the selection of a substantive rector.
According to the institution, the appointment followed the voluntary resignation of the outgoing Rector, Dr Usman Sani Tunga, before the expiration of his tenure.
Abdullahi brings more than three decades of experience in teaching, research and administration to the role. He joined the polytechnic as a Lecturer III and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in 2012.
Over the years, he has held several key positions within the institution, including Examination Officer, Head of the Department of English, Dean of the School of General Studies and Acting Director of Science and Technology. He also served as the pioneer Director of Collaboration, Affiliation and Linkages, after which he became Director of Academic Planning before emerging as Deputy Rector (Academic).
He has chaired more than 15 committees of the Academic Board, Management and the Governing Council. Abdullahi has also served four times as a member of the Governing Council, representing the community, congregation and the office of the Deputy Rector.
Beyond the polytechnic, Abdullahi is regarded as a prominent community leader, public commentator, master of ceremonies, public speaker and social media commentator.
He is also a poet and author of Voices from Azugru and Introduction to Literary Appreciation. He currently serves as Chairman of the Kebbi State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Literary Scholars Association, as well as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Administrators of Nigeria.
Abdullahi is a member of the Governing Council of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, Kebbi State. He has also served as patron or staff adviser to several youth and student associations.
In recognition of his contributions to society, he has received honours from various communities and organisations and holds several traditional titles, including Sansanin Zuru, Magatakardan Dabai and Garkuwan Tadurga. His appointment as Acting Rector will take effect from 23 March 2026.
