A lecturer in the Department of Public Health at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Dr Iyanuoluwa Adufe, has secured a research grant from the African Centre for Development Impact (ACDI) under its 2026 Research Grant Competition.

Adufe’s proposal, titled “The BRIDGE Trial: A Pilot Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial of a Co-Created One Health Behavioural Intervention to Improve Antimicrobial Stewardship in Nigeria,” was selected for funding following a competitive review involving local and international experts.

The award, supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, is aimed at funding high-quality, policy-relevant research capable of generating evidence for improved policymaking and development practice in Africa.

According to a statement by UNIOSUN’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the project will run from August 17, 2026, to July 31, 2027.

Study to address antimicrobial resistance

The research will investigate a co-created behavioural intervention designed to improve antimicrobial stewardship in Nigeria, with the expectation that its findings will contribute to efforts to address the growing challenge of inappropriate antimicrobial use.

The project will also seek to strengthen collaboration between researchers and policymakers by generating evidence that can inform practical interventions and public policy.

In the award letter signed by ACDI Executive Director, Professor Charles Teye Amoatey, the organisation said Adufe’s research would contribute to the growing body of rigorous and policy-relevant evidence needed to support evidence-informed decision-making across Africa.

The researcher will also join ACDI’s network of African researchers working to generate evidence for improved development practice and public policy.

As part of the grant conditions, Adufe and her research team are expected to submit quarterly progress reports and a final technical and financial report.

The project is also expected to produce at least one scholarly publication, while its findings will be presented to relevant policymakers and other stakeholders at a dedicated dissemination forum.

VC commends researcher

Reacting to the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, congratulated Adufe and described the award as further evidence of the quality and relevance of research being undertaken by academics at the university.

Adebooye said the achievement demonstrated the institution’s commitment to research that responds to pressing societal challenges and produces practical solutions capable of influencing policy and improving people’s lives.

He noted that the grant further strengthens UNIOSUN’s emerging profile as a research-driven institution whose academics are competing successfully for prestigious external funding while contributing to important national and continental debates.
