Students of the University of Jos, Plateau State have raised the alarm over the continued attacks on them by hoodlums, whom they said had killed four students in the last five days.
The alarm came just as the corpse of a 100-level student of the university was found on the ground within the Naraguta permanent site of the institution on Thursday.
The deceased student was said to have been pulled out of a tricycle which he boarded and stabbed to death around Bauchi Road in the Jos North Local Government Area.
The President of the Student Union Government of the UNIJOS, Danladi Joshua, Speaker, Prosper Lakai; and the Chairman, Student Judicial Council, Sunday Timothy, confirmed the killing of the 100-level student.
The SUG president said, “Just this afternoon, I got a report that one of our students in 100-level was stabbed to death on his way to the main campus.
“Apart from that, Doris Bitrus, a student of the Department of Religion and Philosophy, was murdered around Bauchi Junction on Sunday on her way to the church.
“Also, a medical student was stabbed just at the gate of the Naraguta hostel. The decaying body of Bagu Christopher, a 100-level student of History and International Relations was found after some days of search. Mafen Ezekiel, a student of the Department of Economic Education is still missing. A 400-level student of Geology Department, Moses Tsaku, who was declared, missing, was found at the intensive care.
“In addition, Kwahaondo Aondona, a 400-level student, is at the moment lying almost lifeless at the intensive care unit of the Bingham University Teaching Hospital. Peace Isaiah, a student of Science and Technical Education, was found at Ola Hospital after hours of tedious search.
“Many other students and staff members are still missing; all these happened within the last five days. We the students of the University of Jos are tired of being killed.”
The student leader called on the government to provide security in the institution and its environs.
“The university authority should also establish a market or multipurpose store where basic foodstuffs can be bought on campus.
“The state Government should appeal to the Federal Government to facilitate the building of perimeter fence of our institution. There should be more accommodation for students of UNIJOS to reduce the number of students who stay off campus,” he added.
