The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified why some candidates are seeing a “No Result Yet” message while checking their 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin on Tuesday, the board explained that the development specifically affects underage candidates whose results have been temporarily withheld.
“Results for underage candidates have not been released. When such candidates attempt to check their results, the system will return the message ‘No Result Yet.’”
Age Requirement at the Centre
JAMB reiterated that only candidates who will be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, are eligible to sit for the UTME.
According to the board, this policy remains strictly enforced as part of efforts to regulate admission standards into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Exception for High-Performing UTME Candidates
However, the examination body noted that exceptional cases exist for academically outstanding underage candidates. To qualify for further consideration, such candidates must:
- Score 320 and above in the UTME
- Attain at least 80% in subsequent screening stages
“Only those who score 320 and above will be shortlisted and invited to proceed to the next stages of the screening.”
Why Results Are Being Withheld
JAMB explained that the withholding is part of a structured screening process agreed upon with parents of underage candidates.
Until this process is completed, affected candidates will continue to see the “No Result Yet” status.
This clarification highlights JAMB’s attempt to balance merit with policy compliance. While exceptional brilliance is recognised, the board is reinforcing age regulations to standardise entry into higher education—an issue that has long generated debate among stakeholders.
