OAU gets new registrar, bursar

The Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has appointed Margaret Omosule as the 12th Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the University and Samson Olayide Ayansina as the new Bursar for the University.

A press release sent to EduCeleb.com on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Abiodun Olarewaju, said Mrs Omosule was the Deputy-Registrar and Acting Director, Vice-Chancellor’ s Office, prior to her appointment while Mr. Ayansina worked in the Finance Department of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, as a Deputy Bursar/Financial Controller.

Mrs Omosule, a native of Ughelli South Local Government of Delta, holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) (Ed.) Degree in History (1984) and Masters Degree in Guidance and Counselling (1990), both from OAU.

“She is currently on her Ph.D Programme in the Department of Educational Foundation and Counselling, Faculty of Education, OAU, Ile-Ife.

“The new appointee began to garner work experience as an Education Officer at the Ministry of Education, Akure, during her NYSC schedule between 1984 and 1985,’’ the release added.

It also said that Mrs Omosule worked at Moremi High School, OAU, between 1991 and 1995.

Mrs Omosule, it added, joined the service of OAU as an Administrative Officer 1 on January 23, 1995 and rose through the ranks to the post of Deputy Registrar in 2011.

It said that since she joined the university, she had served in different capacities and in various arms of the university.

According to the release, she acquired knowledge and experience in the university’s administration processes and procedures at junior, intermediate and higher levels.

Ayansina becomes OAU’s new bursar

Born on the 15th day of February, 1962, in the ancient city of Eruwa in Oyo State, Samson Ayansina attended Methodist Primary School, Ago–Ajala, Temidire, Eruwa, between 1969 and 1974 before proceeding to Baptist Modern/ Commercial School, Eruwa from 1974 to 1978. He obtained his West Africa School Certificate in 1984 and thereafter, gained admission into The Polytechnic, Ibadan (1984 – 1986) where he obtained a National Diploma and emerged Overall Best Student in Business Administration. While in the Polytechnic, Ayansina obtained an Advanced Level (‘A’ Level) General Certificate of Education.

Not satisfied with this educational attainment, the young Ayansina, at various times, attended the University of Ibadan, from 1999 to 2000, and from 2001 to 2003. And in 2005, he gained admission into the Lead City University, Ibadan where be bagged a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree, First Class Honours, in Accounting and emerged Overall Best Student in Auditing in 2007.

A Fellow of Chartered Accountant and a seasoned financial guru, Mr. Ayansina’s working experience cuts across all areas of accounting. He was a secretarial staff between 1986 and 1990 and upon passing the examinations of Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria, he was redeployed to Bursary Department as an Accounts Officer (1990 – 1993). From 1991 to 1993, he worked in the Cash Office and Finance Office, Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine.

Between 1993 and 1996, Mr Ayansina, as a Senior Accountant, was overseeing the reconciliation of the University Bank Accounts with some Accounts of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Wema Bank, including Advances section. From 1996 to 2004, he became a Principal Account and Chief Accountant respectively, and was in the Finance Office, Institute and Faculty of Education where he was in charge of different accounts, representing the Bursar and supervising all financial transactions.

On the 1st day of April, 2008, Mr. Ayansina was promoted to the rank of a Deputy Bursar/Financial Controller in the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, where he generally supervised and coordinated the financial and administrative activities of the Department.

The new Bursar belongs to several National and International Organisations and has rendered unquantifiable services to humanity through these organisations.

He was a member, Investigation Panel set-up to investigate allegations leveled against the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Bursar, Osun State University, Osogbo, 2015; Chairman, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Ibadan and District Society, 2016 to date. Vice-Chairman, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Ibadan and District Society, 2014 – 2016; Member, Finance and General Purpose Committee, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, 2015.

He was also a Chief Invigilator, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; Group Leader, Professional Examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; Member, LOC, 9th Western District Conference, Oyo/Ogbomoso of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Oyo 2015; Member, LOC, 10th Western District Conference, Ijebu-Ode of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Ijebu-Ode 2016; Member, CPC 11th Western District Conference, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, February 2017; Member, CPC 12th Western District Conference, Ota, Ogun State of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, February 2018; Auditor, Ibadan Baptist Conference of the Nigeria Baptist Convention, Hebron Centre, Ibadan; Treasurer, Chosen Generation Baptist Association of the Nigeria Baptist Convention, Moniya among other things.

The duo would be resuming in their new positions from 1st June.
