Lagos govt set to renovate 60 public schools

Lagos State Government has disclosed plans to renovate 60 public schools across the state.

It said this is in fulfillment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s inaugural promise to invest in the education of our children and young adults.
State Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, disclosed this on Monday, 28th October while interacting with staff of the ministry. 

These schools, ten from each of the six Education Districts, are part of the effort and impact driven activities in kick-starting transformation in the Education Sector aimed at improving standard and quality of education as well as education management in Lagos State.

In her address, the Commissioner stressed that the commencement of these rehabilitations may not take-off until all due processes, including Procurement, are fully completed and strictly adhered to by all parties involved.

According to her, the Sanwo-olu administration has resolved to introduce measures aimed at addressing three broad critical issues affecting Education in the State.

These include the need to upgrade the teaching profession, the curriculum and school infrastructure.

She added that the Lagos government will ensure that Lagos public schools are made number one nationally and must compete globally with much-needed skills, while preparing for the jobs of tomorrow.

In aligning School Curriculum with 21st century realities, the Commissioner assured the public on leveraging technology platforms to teach, assess, test and reinforce learning in conjunction with the Private Sector and development partners.

The government, she said, would be ensuring collaboration with Industry, Federal Government and Academia in updating the school’s curriculum such that it reflects current and future industry needs to positively influence and reshape the present educational system in the State.

She enthused that the Government is desirous of promoting knowledge transfer and co-creating workable and functional models for taking Education Sector in Lagos State to an admirable heights and reiterated plans by the State Government to recruit qualified Teachers public schools in Lagos State.
