The management of the Kwara State University has suspended the school’s Student Union election over what it called the “monetisation of the electoral process” and “undue interference … from outside the University”.
A statement issued by the Ag. Registrar, Mr Mohammed A. Shuaib, stated that the decision was reached at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday.
He added that heightened cases of insecurity of lives and property in Malete community and its environs and the influence of unregistered associations/groups/media outlets in the electoral process are part of the reasons for the suspension of the election.
He added that there is also illegal harvesting of students’ emails and Login details.
“The current Administration, remains committed to the democratic process, practiced according to the law, and to raising future leaders with character and learning, in line with the age-long values of a university,” he said.
