The Kano State Government has finalized plans to recruit 17,600 security guards and local hunters to enhance the security of public schools across the state’s 44 local government areas. This initiative is part of the government’s effort to ensure the safety of students amid various security threats.
The Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Umar Doguwa, revealed this during a meeting with executive members of the Rumfa Old Boys Association, Class of ’94, on Friday. Doguwa emphasized that safeguarding schools is crucial for advancing education, calling for collective efforts from the government, individuals, and non-governmental organizations to address challenges in the education sector.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Kubra Imam, Doguwa reiterated the ministry’s willingness to collaborate with old students’ associations to improve education standards in Kano. He also highlighted Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s declaration of a state of emergency on education as a sign of the administration’s dedication to resolving issues in the sector.
Doguwa listed the government’s achievements so far, including the distribution of teaching materials, provision of furniture, renovation and construction of classrooms, as well as the training and retraining of staff. He noted that the government’s focus is on improving access, quality, and infrastructure in schools.
The Secretary of the Rumfa Old Boys Association, Class ’94, Alhaji Mustapha Rabi’u, commended the government’s efforts in overhauling the education sector. He pledged the association’s support, highlighting their ongoing intervention programs for current students, which include mentorship and provision of teaching facilities.
