Kano State Government has announced that all students in the state’s Public Secondary Schools must register and obtain National Identification Number (NIN) from JSS 1 to SS.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sanusi Kiru, made the announcement while briefing newsmen in Kano.

He said mandatory NIN registration was to establish an updated data base for all students in the state for easy budgetary planning, keeping optimum records to eradicate manipulations of students record during examinations and to reduce chances for malpractices.

The commissioner said the NIN enrollment would enable the ministry to record demographic data, capture the 10 fingerprints, head to shoulder facial picture and digital signature of each student.

He therefore called on the management of Kano State Senior Schools Management Board (KSSMB), zonal directors, principals and principal directors to ensure strict adherence to the new directive as new bio-data form has been designed to capture all the information needed.

He explained that the ministry has concluded arrangements with the state office of the National Identity Management Commission to facilitate the issuance of the NIN on zonal basis for the students
