Deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi would on Thursday be conferred with an honorary doctorate degree at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
This development is coming same day the Kano State government deposed the traditional ruler from his palatial office in Kano.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Charles Esimone, disclosed that Sanusi would be honoured along with two other personalities while addressing a pre-convocation press conference on Monday at the university’s senate chambers.
The other two honourees are chairman of Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwuma and the Chairman of Dozzy groups, Daniel Chukwudozie.
He said the awardees are being honoured in recognition of their contributions to development of the society and the institution’s education sector.
According Esimone, Sanusi as governor of Central Bank of Nigeria imparted on the nation’s education, saying that during the period, he built a facility worth of N500 million to UNIZIK and did many other things to benefit the institution and others across the country.
He said Sanusi has seriously contributed his quota to Nigeria’s development especially in the area of human capital development.
Chukwuma, he said, has contributed immensely to national development through these chains of companies he runs, prominent among which is Innoson Motors.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the chairman of Innoson had alleviated the transport suffering students and students in the university by making donation of various motors for their use.
He noted that Innoson motors is planning to build in the university one of the best car diagnostic centres in the country and the centre would be run by the students for their training.
He added that Chukwudozie will be honoured by the university in recognition of his contributions to society and the education in the country.
“The chairman of Dozzy groups has done so much to the university to leap jump the institution to a greater height.
“Dozzy groups established paint factory in the university and the factory has been helping in training students on entrepreneurship skills.
”All the paints we are using in the school are sourced from the factory and even all the paints we used to paint the university during the convocation are sources from the factory,” he said.
EduCeleb.com also reported that the UNIZIK management suspended classes for the Chinese course in the institution amid fears of a probable spread of the novel Coronavirus.
During the convocation ceremonies, over 8,000 graduates will be conferred with various degrees and diplomas of the university.
