Oyo State Government has promised to restore the giving out grants to schools, eight years after its stoppage by the last administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

This is the first time the government is coming up with an alternative to funding the running cost of the public schools after it earlier announced the stoppage of the 3000 naira sessional levy paid by parents.

The government however warned stakeholders in the education sector , saying anyone caught in the act of sabotaging the administration’s efforts to reposition education would be severely dealt with.

The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Nureni Adeniran, disclosed this at a meeting with leaders of the state wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers and Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria.

In his words, “The government knows that the NUT and AOPSHON are critical stakeholders and we will religiously follow our promises , but we must warn that we will not tolerate any saboteurs in our determined efforts.

“Government will look into the return of your running grants , because we know that stopping these grants did not do our schools any good.”
