The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted claims regarding a circulating document suggesting that the approved fees for Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) are set at ₦386,000. The Ministry clarified that this document, purportedly originating from the Office of the Director, Senior Secondary Education Department, is fraudulent and misleading.
In a statement issued over the weekend Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, the Director of Senior Secondary Education, categorically denied the authenticity of the document, emphasising that it did not come from her office.
She further highlighted that the highest fee currently paid by students in FUCs is ₦100,000, which applies only to new students and covers essential costs such as boarding, uniforms, and textbooks, while tuition remains completely free.
“Tuition fees in all Federal Unity Colleges are free,” Abdulkadir reiterated, stressing that the document in question not only carried the wrong address for the Senior Secondary Education Department but also contained numerous spelling errors and other flaws, casting further doubt on its legitimacy.
The Ministry condemned the document as an attempt to sow confusion among parents, particularly those new to the FUC system.
“This is a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and cause panic among the public,” Abdulkadir added.
The Ministry advised parents and the general public to disregard the fraudulent document and warned against falling victim to such scams. It urged anyone with doubts about the officially approved fees and charges for FUCs to verify the information through the Ministry’s official website or by contacting the nearest FUC principals.
This denial by the Ministry serves as a timely reminder for parents to remain vigilant and to rely only on official channels for accurate information concerning educational fees and other related matters.
