The management of Covenant University, Ota has sacked the Registrar of the institution, Olumuyiwa Oludayo, multiple sources told EduCeleb.com.
This is not unconnected to allegations by an expelled student of the institution, Emmanuel Adooh that Dr Oludayo is a sexual predator.
Recall that Mr Adooh had earlier in the week taken to his twitter account to deride his university after winning a court case challenging his expulsion by the university through its disciplinary committee. While saying these, he claimed that he had obeyed the school’s rules for the past five years he studied there. His expulsion came at a time he and his colleagues were preparing for the last convocation ceremony held in July.
Aside alleging that the Registrar was involved in some acts of ‘sexual immorality’ for which he was expelled, Adooh also claimed that suspending and expelling students earns staff of Covenant University some promotion.
Meanwhile, two of his colleagues who he claimed were complicit in the plot that got him expelled have come out to say that his story is not entirely true as he was making it sound.
His former course mate, Marilyn Effanga publicly admitted that she actually had sexual intercourse with Mr Adooh while her friend, who he blamed for not corroborating his initial story of denial also confirmed knowledge of it all. They claimed that such clarification was needed in light of the manner in which he was changing the narrative after his court victory.
The university management is yet to make a public statement about all these even after several enquiries by EduCeleb.com to get their side of the story.
Registrar sacked
In an audio recording obtained on Friday, the Chancellor of Covenant, Bishop David Oyedepo is heard insinuating that the Registrar had been sacked. This was during a church service held on Thursday evening. Persons present at the service confirmed hearing him say words that suggest such.
Screenshots of a chat between a student and Oludayo leaked after the initial thread had the embattled registrar requesting to be the unnamed young woman’s “intimate ally”.
In an apparent reference to that, Oyedepo during the school’s chapel service for 100 and 200 level students said thus.
From this day henceforth, no student, whether male or female, must be found having an intimacy ally.
If you’re found, then you’re gone. We did not apply to you, you applied to us. I say, if you misbehave, you’ll be sent out with ignominy.
Caution! Caution! Caution!
Vice Chancellor, Dean Student Affairs, Registrar, Oh! We don’t have a registrar at the moment. But I have spoken and this is law.
EduCeleb.com recalls that at the time Oludayo became Covenant University Registrar in 2013, he was the youngest to have held that position in Africa at age 32. His tenure was renewed in 2017, in what many observers called a well deserved appointment.
He is the first alumnus of Covenant University to be appointed Registrar of the school. Before becoming Registrar, Oludayo had been teaching in the Department of Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management where he earned all his higher education qualifications to the PhD level.
