The management of Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, has introduced new grooming and dress code regulations for students ahead of the institution’s forthcoming examinations, warning that violators will face disciplinary action.

In a statement signed by the Vice President for Student Development, Olaniyi Arije, the university announced that it has nullified all so-called “hair passes,” describing them as illegal documents that do not grant students any legitimate right to maintain unapproved hairstyles on campus.

According to the statement, the use, circulation or recognition of hair-pass tags in any form has been outlawed with immediate effect. Students currently in possession of such documents have been directed to discontinue their use, as presenting or relying on them will attract investigation and possible sanctions.

The university said the new regulations will take effect at the beginning of the second semester in January and will be strictly enforced across all campuses.

Under the revised guidelines, male students are prohibited from wearing voluminous or unkempt hair, beards and dreadlocks, while female students are barred from extreme, indecent or inconsistent hairstyles.

The institution also restated restrictions on dressing, noting that body-hugging clothes, sleeveless blouses or dresses, sagging trousers, as well as baggy, boot-cut or over-length trousers are not permitted. In addition, tying scarves to corporate or official academic wear is prohibited at certain times.

The statement further said that outfits such as bubu, dansiki, joggers, sportswear and walk-out wear are not allowed on campus during stipulated periods.

The management warned that any student found in possession of prohibited items or in violation of the regulations would face disciplinary measures.

“Students currently in possession of any form of hair-pass or exemption are directed to disregard and discontinue its use immediately,” the statement read.
“Any student found presenting, using, or relying on such a document shall be investigated for the violation of University regulations and, if found liable, shall face the inevitable consequence accordingly.”

The university added that it will not entertain excuses, appeals or claims of ignorance, urging all students to resume fully compliant with the new regulations.
