Anambra creates special calendar for schools in flood prone zones

The Anambra State Executive Council has approved a Special Academic Calendar for the riverine and flood prone areas in the State.

The Council approved the special calendar based on the request by the State Commissioner for Basic Education, Kate Omenugha.

Children from the riverine and flood-prone areas in the state may be made to be out of school due to flood, for a significant part of the year covering the first term of thirteen weeks.

According to a statement signed on behalf of the Commissioner by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Linus Nwankwo, made available to EduCeleb.com, the Council approved that the first term of the 2020/2021 academic session will begin on the 3rd August to 4th September 2020 after normal academic activities ends 24th July 2020 and a short break observed 2nd August 2020.

The state noted that holidays will take place between 7th September to 30th October, 2020 and classes resume again on the 2nd November and end on 18th December 2020 and they will advance on Christmas break with others on the 18th of December 2020 to the 4th of January 2021 while they start the second term on the 4th January 2021 with the others.

The commissioner in the statement urged the Chairmen of the Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission, the Universal Basic Education Board, Zonal Directors, Zonal and Area Education Officers, Education Secretaries and all stakeholders in the concerned Education Zones and Local Government Areas to take note of the approval for guidance and necessary action.
