In a landmark Public-Private Partnership (PPP) effort, Advent Integrated Services Ltd, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, Lagos State University (LASU), and other stakeholders, has completed a 1,128-bed Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) at LASU. This new facility aims to address LASU’s critical student housing shortage and support the university’s shift towards a more residential model.

Goke Dokun, Managing Director of Advent Integrated Services Ltd, underscored the partnership’s importance, noting that the new hostel provides quality, secure, and comfortable living spaces tailored to meet students’ daily needs. “This facility is designed to create an environment conducive to academic success and personal growth,” he stated.

The new hostel features modern amenities, including furnished rooms with en-suite bathrooms, study areas, common spaces, a launderette, convenience stores, cafeterias, recreational facilities, and internet access.

Additionally, eco-friendly infrastructure, such as a biodigester system for waste management and sustainable water and energy solutions, aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Quality Education (Goal 4), Clean Water and Sanitation (Goal 6), Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11).

Dokun credited the project’s success to the proactive engagement of the Lagos State Government, adding that the project was funded through the Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (NIDF), which helped overcome typical financing challenges and ensured timely delivery.

University officials commended the collaboration, highlighting that the new hostel will significantly alleviate the long-standing accommodation shortage, enhance student welfare, and foster academic excellence. They also praised the project’s adherence to Environmental and Social Management standards, which provide immediate benefits while ensuring long-term positive impacts on the community.

Student housing shortages have long plagued Nigeria’s higher education system, with over 1.8 million students spread across 170 universities. According to the National Universities Commission (NUC), the average student-to-bed ratio in Nigerian universities is 15:1, well above the global average of 3:1, underscoring the urgent need for solutions like LASU’s new hostel.
