Yobe expends N400m on 233 students’ scholarship in India

Yobe State government has concluded arrangements for the departure of 233 candidates to undergo foreign training via scholarship in India at the cost of N400 million.

In his farewell address at the WAWA Hall, Government House Damaturu, the Governor represented by his Deputy Idi Barde Gubana said that their administration on assumption of duty declared state of emergency on education sector to build a solid foundation for future generations and ensure that Yobe indigenes acquire better education.

He further disclosed that the students have successfully passed their examinations and obtained admissions into reputable universities to study relevant professional courses in India.

According to him, the set of 233 candidates were chosen across the 17 local government areas of the state who performed well out of 6, 785 applicants in accordance with the requirement set by the foreign scholarship scheme introduced by the present administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state.

He further explained that the students are mainly to study Engineering, Pharmacy and other Paramedical courses in order to came back and fill the gaps in these areas after successful completion of their studies.

The Governor however stressed that the state government expended a total sum of N396,859,356 for the sponsorship of all courses.

He urged them to be good ambassadors and ensure that they stay clear of drug abuse and any unwanted acts that will tarnish the image of the state and Country.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman overseas scholarship visitation committee who is also the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Modu Maji Ajiri, and Chairman screening committee, Dr Ibrahim Almuhajir, revealed that the selected Candidates were from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state and were all subjected to thorough screening by professionals mandated by Governor Mai Mala Buni to observe due process without favour.

Earlier speaking, the Executive Secretary Yobe State Scholarship Board, Dr. Abubakar Bukar Kagu, explained that one of the responsibilities of the board is to cater for and connect with the schools administration in respect of the beneficiaries from UK to france, Uganda and Egypt among others.

He added that the main purpose of education is to make a peaceful and happy living society, he commended Governor Buni for his foresight, commitment and concern on people of the state in ensuring that Yobe indigenes acquire best and better education.

In an appreciation message on behalf of the Parents of the beneficiaries, Gujbawu Plumber, said that parents and guardians are deeply grateful and will continue to support government with prayer to enable them provide more dividend of democracy to the people of the state.
