The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Sunday disclosed that it was yet to decide on when the 2019/2020 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates would hold.

It made this known against the backdrop of the purported WASSCE timetable being circulated online.

The examining body said the timetable did not emanate from its offices.

WAEC Nigeria Head of Public Affairs, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, told EduCeleb.com that such a decision cannot be arrived at without full consultation with WAEC member-nations across the West African sub-region.

Aside Nigeria, WAEC member-nations are Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia.

Recall that the May/June WASSCE was initially scheduled to hold between 6th April and 5th June but WAEC postponed it indefinitely because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement last Monday by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 that students in their graduating classes were to resume to write their exams has had little effect across Nigeria.

So far, only Lagos State has announced 3rd August as its resumption date after that.

Unconnected to that earlier is the decision by the Oyo State government to reopen schools on Monday, 6th July.
