President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced key appointments into four significant national institutions: the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI), and the New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD).
The appointments, made to strengthen these organisations’ leadership and efficiency, were disclosed in a statement on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy).
Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu: Executive Secretary, NUC
Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, a visiting professor at the NUC, has been named its new Executive Secretary.
A specialist in veterinary reproduction, Ribadu previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola, and Sule Lamido University, Jigawa State.
Prof. Salisu Shehu: Executive Secretary, NERDC
President Tinubu appointed Prof. Salisu Shehu as the Executive Secretary of the NERDC.
A distinguished scholar in educational and human psychology, Shehu played a pivotal role in establishing the School of Continuing Education at Bayero University, Kano, and also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Istiqamah University, Kano.
Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri: National Coordinator, NEPAD
Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri has been appointed the National Coordinator of NEPAD.
Tsauri, who holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, brings expertise in legislative and global affairs, democratic governance, and public administration to the role.
Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani: Executive Secretary, SMDF/PAGMI
Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani takes on the position of Executive Secretary at SMDF/PAGMI.
He holds degrees in Business Administration and Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire, UK. With a background in banking, computing, and business administration, Danfulani previously worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and served as Zamfara State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
Presidential Vision for New Appointees
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the appointees, emphasising their expertise and leadership credentials.
He stated that their appointments would “bring a renewed sense of commitment, progress, and positive outcomes to meet Nigerians’ expectations for these institutions.”
These appointments align with the President’s broader vision of bolstering institutional efficiency and driving impactful governance across key sectors.
