The Oyo State Government has approved N170 million for the production and distribution of past question booklets to students preparing for the 2019/2020 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
This is as it also plans to conduct training for teachers to improve learning outcomes.
In its State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, 5th November, Governor Seyi Makinde held that such moves would boost the performance of the students.
“Our intervention in the education sector will cover the quality of educational service provided as well as access and participation, whilst increasing funding for the sector,” Makinde said.
With a target of 100,000 copies of the compiled past questions, these would be distributed among students in both public and private secondary schools across the State.
The government said these would cover ten subjects it did not name.
Also, each would cost N1,700 but this comes at no cost to the beneficiaries.
In another development, the Council terminated the original contract for the Iseyin Road project which was awarded by the previous administration, due to its dissatisfaction with the work being done.
The contract sum was increased from the original amount of N7B to cover changes made to the project’s design, including rectifying the inadequate drainage facilities in the original design and changes in the pricing of materials such as bitumen.
The new contractors, Kopek Construction Ltd, are expected to resume at the site next week to start working, and the project is billed to be completed in 12 months.
