Gunmen have kidnapped over 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, in Benue State.
The students, who were on their way to the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu, were ambushed by the attackers around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area.
The abducted students are reportedly from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, and were traveling together when the incident occurred.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, stating that the police received the report between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
“Yes, the report of kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing,” she said.
Authorities are currently working to secure the release of the students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
