The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has achieved a significant academic milestone, receiving approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for 17 academic programmes after the successful completion of the 2023 and 2024 accreditation exercises.
This achievement was confirmed in a statement released by Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, who announced that the institution recorded 100 per cent success in the most recent NUC evaluations.
According to the statement, the accreditation reflects FULafia’s commitment to national academic standards and the pursuit of quality education across its faculties. The approved programmes span multiple disciplines, including agriculture, health sciences, arts, computing, education, science, and social sciences.
Breakdown of the Accredited Programmes:
- Faculty of Agriculture: Fisheries and Aquaculture, Forestry and Wildlife
- Faculty of Allied Health Sciences: Medical Laboratory Science
- Faculty of Arts: English and Literary Studies, French, Theatre and Media Arts
- Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences: Human Anatomy (interim), Human Physiology (full accreditation)
- Faculty of Computing: Computer Science (interim)
- Faculty of Education: Business Education, Education Biology, Education Chemistry, Education Computer Science, Education Mathematics, Education Physics, Integrated Science
- Faculty of Science: Biochemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology
- Social Sciences: Social Work, Accounting, Business Administration, Psychology, Mass Communication, Geography and Environmental Management
- Health-Related Courses: Radiography, Nursing Science (interim)
- Languages and Religion: Arabic Studies, Christian Religious Knowledge, Hausa Language, Islamic Studies
Mr. Ibrahim credited the achievement to the dedication of FULafia’s academic and non-academic staff, students, and the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, whose team he praised for guiding the university toward academic excellence.
“We are deeply honoured by this achievement. It is a clear reflection of FULafia’s growing reputation for academic integrity, programme quality, and continuous development,” he said.
While full accreditation status is valid for five years, interim accreditation, such as those granted for Nursing Science, Human Anatomy, and Computer Science, will last for two years pending reassessment.
The university assured that efforts are underway to address any gaps noted in the interim assessments, particularly for Nursing Science, with a goal to attain full accreditation during the next review.
