The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed a total of N2.026 billion in student loans to six federal universities.
The beneficiaries include, University of Benin, Edo State; the University of Ibadan, Oyo State; Bayero University, Kano State; the University of Ilorin, Kwara State; the University of Maiduguri, Borno State; and the Federal University, Dutsin-ma, Katsina State.
Disbursement Details
According to a statement released on Saturday by NELFUND’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Nasir Ayitogo, the funds were disbursed directly to these institutions as they commenced new academic sessions.
The breakdown of the disbursed amounts is as follows:
- Bayero University, Kano: N853,775,000
- University of Maiduguri, Borno State: N589,001,500
- Federal University, Dutsin-ma, Katsina State: N304,961,890
- University of Ibadan, Oyo State: N201,114,650
- University of Ilorin, Kwara State: N52,897,890
- University of Benin, Edo State: N24,412,500
Future Disbursements
The statement also mentioned that an additional six universities will receive their payments in the coming week as soon as they commence their academic sessions.
The funds are part of NELFUND’s ongoing efforts to support student access to education across Nigeria.
Statement Highlights
“Six federal institutions have so far received institutional fees directly from NELFUND. They include Bayero University Kano, University of Ilorin, University of Benin, University of Ibadan, University of Maiduguri, and Federal University Dutsin-ma, Katsina State,” said the statement by Nasir Ayitogo.
“The total amount disbursed to these institutions stands at approximately N2,026,163,340. A further six will receive their payments in the coming week.”
The disbursements aim to ease the financial burden on students and ensure continuous access to quality education across the country.
