A student group in Lagos under the aegis of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos Mainland Area Council is crowdfunding its project to assist indigent intelligent youths towards educational advancement.

The leader of the group, Abeeb Audu told EduCeleb.com on Wednesday that the motive behind the initiative was support the educationally deficient to advance their education.

Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet.

Audu noted that the target of the project are primarily secondary school students who may be seeking admission into tertiary institutions and those about to write their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

“The secondary students are our valuable pool of membership and we have large number of them who we have started training on regular basis. Hence, we need to add the education support. It is also our social responsibility to our immediate society,” he told EduCeleb.com.

The group is working in partnership with Zenith Tutorial College, Lagos to offer the youth the best of preparation towards their exams.

He called on members of the public to support the education of these intelligent indigent fellows to gain admission into higher institutions, and the secondary school students to pass their O’level.

Cost estimates

The MSSN Lagos Mainland Area estimates that each admission seeker into the university  may be needing N13,000 for a 3 month intensive coaching and registering with the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME). That amounts to two hundred and sixty thousand naira (N260,000) for twenty students.

Candidates intending to prepare for the SSCE, according to the group’s estimates would need N6,000 each for a three month intensive coaching, amounting to one hundred and twenty thousand naira (N120,000) for twenty willing beneficiaries.

Those who may want to write the SSCE as private candidates, otherwise called GCE, would have to be funded with twenty eight thousand naira each. This caters for both the examination and a six month tutorial class. That amounts to four hundred and eighty thousand naira (N480,000) for twenty willing students.
