The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has partnered the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to organized 5-day capacity training, under the Y2017/2018 Teacher Professional Development (TPD) for Early Childhood Care Development Teachers.
The training themed “Application of Reggio Emilia Jewel and other Approaches in Early Years Education”, began on 8th February, 2021.
While speaking at the training on Wednesday February 10, 2021, the a Board member in charge of Special Projects, Hon. Adebayo Adefuye, who represented the Executive Chairman of the Board, stated that the training was designed to prepare teachers to effectively handle children at early stages in preparation for other classes.
He added that it is also designed to meet children’s multiple needs in the aspect of health, nutrition and psycho-social stimulation.
“This workshop is aimed at training teachers on the best method to handle children at first entrance of school at their early stage,” he said.
He added that the training which is in line with the third pillar of the THEMES Agenda, (Education and Technology) of the state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will help identify the need to cover all the milestones in the development of the child and also prepare them ahead for upper class.
“They say first impression last longer, these children from the early years must have an impression that they must do well while they are still in the first stage of learning” he added.
Head of Early Childhood Care Development Special Education Unit, Mrs. Hilda Twins, noted that the key focus of the training is to train teachers on the use of abandoned and disposable items such as disposable plates, clays and bottles for instructional materials in the classroom .
“They will be sensitized to how to come down to the level of the children in the classroom for them to be able to assimilate and also improve learning impact in the pupils, ” she added.
