LASU suspends security personnel who assaulted student

The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun has announced the suspension of security personnel who allegedly “physically assaulted” a student on Friday evening.

In a press release signed by the Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Mr Ademola Adekoya, the VC also said that the persons involved would face a disciplinary panel on Wednesday, 13th March.

The names of the parties involved were not however stated in the press release as details are still sketchy.

In his words, “The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, has been duly briefed of an unfortunate incident which occurred this evening Friday, 8th March, 2019 at the University Main Campus, Ojo between a student and some campus marshal.”

“A misunderstanding had occurred between a student and some members of the LASU Security Unit over alleged reckless driving which eventually led to physical assault on the student.”

“The Vice-Chancellor has directed that all the security personnel involved in the incidence be suspended forthwith and will appear before a fact finding panel on Wednesday, 13th March, 2019.”

“The Vice-Chancellor in the circumstance implores all students to please go about their normal activities.”
