A Professor of Transport Planning and Policy at Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Samuel Gbadebo Odewunmi, has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Akwa Ibom State.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated December 15, 2025, signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council of the University of Uyo, Mrs Blossom E. Okorie. According to the letter, the appointment followed the approval of the Visitor to the University, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as communicated by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, CON.
“Further to the approval of the Visitor to the University of Uyo, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as communicated by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, CON, I write on behalf of the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University to convey your appointment as the Acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Uyo, Nigeria,” the letter stated.
The appointment takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending the completion of the process for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Odewunmi is a former Dean of the School of Transport and Logistics, LASU, and is widely regarded for his contributions to transport planning, policy, and logistics education in Nigeria.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulated Prof. Odewunmi on what she described as a well-deserved appointment.
She noted that the selection reflects his distinguished academic career, administrative competence, and outstanding scholarly contributions, expressing confidence that his wealth of experience would significantly contribute to the growth, stability, and advancement of the University of Uyo.
Lagos State University also wished Prof. Odewunmi a successful and impactful tenure as Acting Vice-Chancellor.
