LASU, other Lagos tertiary institutions get new governing councils

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Chairmen and Governing Council members for four State-owned Tertiary Institutions: Lagos State University (LASU), Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED).

In a statement signed by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri- Okunola, the Governor said the tenure of Office of the newly appointed Governing Council members would take effect from 1st August 2020, following the expiration of the tenures of the former Governing Councils.

That is with the exception of that of LASU where the tenure of the newly appointed Chancellor, Professor Gbolahan Elias, would become effective from 16th September, 2020 when the tenure of the incumbent Chancellor, His Excellency Honourable Justice George Oguntade would have expired.

The tenure of Office of the Institutions’ Chief Executive Officers would however remain as provided in relevant Laws.

Governor Sanwo-Olu thanked members of the outgoing Governing Councils for their commitment and meritorious service to the State.

While congratulating the newly appointed Governing Councils members, he expressed his appreciation and delight at the willingness of the new appointees to serve the State and help build on the achievements of the outgoing Councils.

He maintained that the newly appointed Governing Council Members had been carefully identified based on their individual track records in their respective professional fields, adding that he had no doubts about their capacity to move tertiary education in Lagos State to Greater Heights.

While Elias would be the LASU Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Ninalowo is returning as Pro-Chancellor/ Chairman of the council.

Members of the council include; Professor Shafiudeen Amuwo, Mrs Adenike Yomi-Faseun, Dr Adetugbobo Hakeem, Mrs Sule Tolani, Mrs Folasade Adesoye, and Mr Karl Tokun Toriola.

Others are Mr Kunle Soname, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, Mr Adebayo Akinsanya, Mrs Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo, Mrs Morenike Williams, Mr Anuoluwapo Esho and Mrs Foluke Abdul-razaq.

At AOCOED, Professor Nuru Olasupo would be Chairman of the council.

Members are Mrs Riskat Akiode, Dr Olaolu Mudashiru, and Mr Wole Ajifowoke

For LASPOTECH, Professor Rasheed Ojikutu would be the chairman.

Members of his team include, Dr Abiola Awonuga, Mr Saabi Alaba, Mr Habeeb Aileru, Mr Olusegun Ogunlewe, and Mrs Iyabo Kuteyi.

In the case of MOCPED, Alhaja Sekinat Yusuf would be chairing the council.

Members are Mrs Victoria Perigrino, Mrs Folashade Agbalajobi, Mr Toun Adediran, Mr Johnbull Adebanjo and Dr Waliu Ipaye.
