A don at the Faculty of Science, Lagos State University (LASU), Dr AbdulAzeez Anjorin has won the Global Virology Network (GVN) 2023 Training Scholarship/Award.
The winner who acts as Head, Department of Microbiology at LASU won it following a short course in Basic and Translational Virology at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health Baltimore, the United States of America (USA).
Anjorin has also been selected among the Bacterial and Viral Bioinformatics Resource Center (BV-BRC) 2023 Trainee at the Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, Lemont Illinois, USA.
According to the award letter issued and signed by Professor Dr Christian Brechot, President Global Virology Network and Professor Robert Gallo, the Co-founder and International Advisor, the scholarship training will be on the fundamental, translational, and clinical aspects of viruses relevant to human health.
The course will also include time for discussion and interaction with renowned medical virology leaders, industry partners, and policy makers and program officials from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
In a conversation with the Award recipient from the United States, he is hopeful that the scholarship training will enhance his capacity development for knowledge sharing among Faculty members and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the area of genomics and metagenomics using the newly developed bioinformatics tools by the United States Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, Lemont Illinois, and the skills from the GVN training at the Ivy leagues.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello congratulated him on the feat and wishes him more success in his endeavours.
