The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has named Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole as its new substantive Vice-Chancellor. His appointment, approved by the institution’s Governing Council, was announced on Thursday. He will assume office in February 2026, succeeding the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, whose tenure is set to end then.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede.

Professor Ogunwole, a scholar of soil ecosystem studies, currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Strategic Partnership, Research, Innovation and Linkages. He becomes the fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the 14-year-old institution.

‘A long and difficult process’ — Governing Council

According to the statement, the decision was reached at a meeting of the Governing Council presided over by its Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN.

“Today, Thursday, November 6, 2025, brings to an end a very long and difficult process of getting a new VC for FUOYE,” the statement quoted Mr Ogunmodede as saying, noting that the selection process commenced in August following the advertisement of the position.

Senator Ndoma-Egba acknowledged that the race for the vice-chancellorship had generated considerable tension both within and outside the campus. He urged all applicants and stakeholders to put the disputes behind them and support the new administration.

“The appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor has brought rancour and acrimony to the campus and outside it. By this appointment, all these should stop,” he said.

The Pro-Chancellor commended the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fasina, for what he described as an impressive performance, particularly in infrastructural development.

“You are going out with confidence and your head held high. I congratulate you,” he added.

Senator Ndoma-Egba also praised members of the Governing Council for their “commitment, doggedness and thoroughness” throughout the selection process.

He later presented the letter of appointment to Professor Ogunwole.
