The Federal University Kashere (FUK) in Gombe state has introduced seven new degree programmes for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Umaru Pate, broke the news during the 10th matriculation ceremony of the institution on Friday.
The VC said the newly-introduced programmes include: Procurement Management, Entrepreneurial Studies, Public Administration, Mass Communication, International Relations, Marketing as well as Library and Information Science.
He said the commencement of the courses followed the approval granted to the institution by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Pate also announced that the institution had also commenced the process of establishing a College of Medical and Health Science to enable the university run degree programmes in medicine, nursing and the health sciences.
“To this end, the management has constituted a committee of eminent experts to study and advise on the most effective modalities for achieving our objectives in the shortest possible time,” he said.
The VC added that the institution had also applied to the NUC for the establishment of three specialised centres on research and training for conflict, peace and gender studies.
Others, he said include, centres on sugar research as well as environmental and climate studies.
He expressed optimism that the centres would take off before the end of 2021.
It was gathered that 3,448 students comprising 2,319 males and 1,129 females were matriculated.
