The new Director is until his appointment the Head of Department, Banking and Finance, Ahmadu Bello University.
The appointment was approved by CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele in a letter dated September 28, 2020.
Dr. Haruna’s “appointment is for an initial period of three years, inclusive of a probationary period of the first year after which, subject to your satisfactory performance, your appointment shall be confirmed.”
The letter copied to the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Kabir Bala, also said the duration was from 1st October, 2020 to 30th September, 2023.
It also said the appointment might, at the instance of the Bank, be renewed for an additional period of two years.
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had in August last year unveiled the Centre built and domiciled at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The three first generation federal universities in the country across the six geo-political zones were selected under the first phase of the intervention programme.
They are Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Ibadan and University of Nsukka.
The project, according to the apex bank, was conceived to produce a critical mass of skilled professionals that would be able to apply their knowledge toward supporting growth and continued innovation in the country’s financial sector and the economy in general.
Accepting the offer of appointment, the Director, Dr Haruna explained that Ahmadu Bello University was expected to lead the growth of the professional programmes to the level of those run by the Harvard University because the apex bank had great hope in ABU.
