Bingham University to graduate 1602 students, including first PhD cohort

Bingham University is set to confer degrees on 1,602 graduates during its upcoming combined convocation ceremony, including 262 medical doctors and the institution’s first cohort of PhD graduates.

This milestone event, marking the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Ayuba, during a pre-convocation briefing on Tuesday.

Among the graduating class, 57 students achieved First Class honors, 519 earned Second Class Upper, 576 attained Second Class Lower, 179 received Third Class, 9 obtained a Pass degree, and 262 medical graduates will receive unclassified MBBS degrees.

Additionally, 615 postgraduate students will graduate, comprising 41 PhDs, 155 academic master’s, 298 professional master’s, and 121 postgraduate diplomas.

The university will also honour its first Emeritus Professor, Yakubu Mela Alhasan, for his contributions to academic excellence and mentorship over his 30-year career.

“Professor Alhasan has been a father, a mentor, and an inspiration to many,” Prof. Ayuba remarked, praising his dedication to research, education, and community impact.

The convocation, scheduled for this weekend, will also feature a lecture titled, “Empowering Graduates as Global Citizens for a Sustainable Future,” delivered by Prof. King David Terna Yawe, former President of the Nigeria Cancer Society and former President of the West African College of Surgeons.

Additional events include a thanksgiving service, a novelty volleyball match, an entrepreneurship fair, and a Vice Chancellor’s Luncheon, celebrating this significant academic milestone for Bingham University.
