The executive members of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) have written to the nation’s main anti-graft agencies to probe the Union National President, Abdulrahma Shu’aibu and the National Financial Secretary, Salim Yakubu over alleged N15 million fraud.
The union demanded that the Economic Financial and Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) should investigate what it described as, “serial corruption allegations against a 22-year-old National President of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), and his Financial Secretary.”
According to the petition written to ICPC, Bauchi State, NUBASS stated that the two leaders allegedly looted the resources of the union by diverting the funds into their personal accounts.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission is empowered by law to prevent, investigate, persecute and penalise economic and financial crimes and is charged with the responsibility of enforcing the provisions of other laws and regulating the economic and financial crimes under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000,” the petition partly read.
Furthermore, in the statement signed by Comrade Yunusa Abubakar Bidawa, the union calls on the EFCC and ICPC to bring the suspects to justice if found culpable of the alleged crime.
“The National Union of Bauchi State Student (NUBASS) Excos have written petitions to the Economic Financial and Crime Commission (EFCC), and Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to launch an investigation on Comrade Abdulrahma Shu’aibu (National President), and Comrade Salim Yakubu (Financial Secretary), in the appearance of plundered the resources of the union and diverted over N15 million of union revenue to their personal accounts.
“Finally we are relying on all the provisions of the EFCC and ICPC constitution and we urge the commissions to properly look into the issue for the purpose of justice,” the statement said.
