The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, threatening to embark on an industrial action if the ongoing issues between the union and the government are not resolved.

This decision was one of the key resolutions reached during ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Ibadan on August 17-18, 2024.

According to the communiqué released after the meeting, ASUU’s NEC discussed the “state of the struggle” and expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s continued inaction regarding unresolved issues.

The union warned that if these matters are not adequately addressed within the stipulated period, they would be left with no choice but to initiate an industrial dispute.

The NEC also highlighted other significant concerns, including the ongoing rejection of the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) in various universities, with ASUU commending branches that have resisted its implementation.

Additionally, the union announced a planned solidarity rally on September 10, 2024, in support of branches facing victimization, signaling their readiness to defend the interests of their members across the country.
