YABATECH partners with FrieslandCampina WAMCO on research, academic exchange

Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has entered into a strategic partnership with FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering research, academic exchange, and bridging the gap between academia and industry.

The MoU was signed during a courtesy visit by the YABATECH management team to FrieslandCampina WAMCO’s headquarters. The Managing Director of FrieslandCampina WAMCO, Mr. Roger Adou, signed on behalf of the company.

The collaboration seeks to address the dynamic needs of industry by reviewing and aligning YABATECH’s curriculum with the demands of the corporate world. The goal is to enhance the employability of students and prepare them for industry challenges.

Commitment from FrieslandCampina WAMCO

In his welcome address, Mr. Adou highlighted FrieslandCampina WAMCO’s 70-year legacy of providing high-quality dairy products under brands like Peak, Three Crowns, and NUNU.

He commended YABATECH’s 77 years of excellence in education, describing the institution as a leader in preparing students for impactful contributions to society.

“You are a leader in distinguished education that works for the country. YABATECH makes talents indelible for society by improving students perfectly to serve FrieslandCampina and the country,” he said.

The Human Resource Manager, Mr. Raymond Naon, underscored the significance of academia-industry collaboration in addressing systemic challenges.

“When I visited YABATECH, I was more than convinced that we need to go with the institution for this partnership. Reviewing curriculum and working on a 360-degree partnership is vital,” he added.

YABATECH’s Vision for Collaboration

The Rector of YABATECH, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, expressed gratitude to FrieslandCampina WAMCO, noting that the partnership aligns with the institution’s agenda for industry collaboration.

“We are aware of the dynamism in the industry, and our teachers must keep pace with these changes to deliver relevant knowledge to students. This collaboration is a dream come true, and the benefits are enormous,” Dr. Abdul stated.

The Rector also announced plans to establish an Industry Advisory Committee in various departments. This committee will involve FrieslandCampina WAMCO staff mentoring YABATECH’s staff and students to better prepare them for industry needs.

Manufacturing Director, Mr. Lamidi Adekola, described the collaboration as a milestone, emphasizing its long-term significance. “This is a dream come true. It guarantees the future of Nigeria. Let us not focus on the current economy but on building the industry of tomorrow,” he said.
