The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to commence the marking of exam scripts after the successfully concluded 2024 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

This phase is scheduled to commence on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Schedule for Marking Exercise

According to WAEC officials, team leaders for all subjects are expected to report to the designated marking centres across Nigeria on July 11.

Assistant Examiners will join them a day later, on July 12. The entire marking exercise is set to last for three weeks.

A text-based invitation from WAEC has already been sent to examiners who had been marking the exams in previous years. But new examiners, otherwise known as ‘gatecrashers‘ are also accepted. Click here to view the list of WAEC marking centres spread across Nigeria.

Importance of Timely Marking

WAEC has over the recent years emphasized the importance of adhering to the schedule to ensure that the results are processed and released on time.

It had worked towards the timely release of results within a month after the last paper was written.

The timely release of results is crucial for students planning to continue their education or enter the workforce.

Anticipation and Preparedness

Both team leaders and Assistant Examiners have expressed readiness for the marking exercise.

Many have been preparing by reviewing marking schemes and familiarizing themselves with the expected standards.

As the marking of WASSCE scripts begins, stakeholders across the education sector are hopeful for a smooth and efficient process.

The outcome of this exercise will play a significant role in shaping the academic and professional futures of many young Nigerians.
