A staff member of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has been caught on video allegedly demanding and receiving ₦16,000 in cash from new students as part of admission clearance procedures.
The footage, which was secretly recorded and shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), shows the staff openly accepting and counting the money from a student. The anonymous whistleblower, believed to be a newly admitted student, claimed the staff insisted on cash payments only, refusing to accept bank transfers.
“This man is collecting ₦16k from each student — this is not fair,” the student said in the video. “Thousands of students are coming to do clearance. He tells you he doesn’t take transfer.”
The incident reportedly occurred in the Faculty of Agriculture, and the student appealed to Nigerians for help, alleging that the practice affects hundreds of other students as well.
As of now, the university has yet to issue an official response. The video has since sparked widespread condemnation online, with calls for accountability and investigation into the alleged extortion.
