Osun State University is billed to host its matriculation ceremony online today.

This is as it proceeds with its academic activities despite the lockdown in place nationwide to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

The university also extended the deadline for payment of tuition after the intervention of the State of Osun House of Assembly.

Reprieve came the way of students of the university who almost got their admission suspended for not meeting up with the deadline for the payment of tuition fees when the parliamentarians met with the leadership of the institution.

The Speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Alabi said the Assembly decided to wade into the complaints of the affected students having realised the hardship that the lockdown might have caused parents and guardians in paying school fees at the stipulated time.

The Speaker stated that the assembly had received the “Save our Soul” message through it’s newly set up Public complaint resolution mechanism inline with the legislative agenda of the assembly.

He added that the 7th Assembly under his watch will not shy away from engaging the citizenry, saying the House will be there to attend promptly to discontent and requests of the people they represent.

“I also want to thank and commend the leadership of UNIOSUN for being considerate and compassionate on this issue.”

“We are all aware of what the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown have caused parents and guardians. This hardship is not limited to the economy of Osun but that of the world”.

It would be recalled that UNIOSUN had ordered that revisions of all Harmattan courses should be made via online platform to get students prepared for Rain semester which will commence by the last week of May.

It should be noted however that all newly admitted students were expected to have paid their tuitions before Matriculation day.
