UNILORIN elevates 16 new professors, rusticates bully students

The authorities of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), in Kwara State, have expelled a 100-level student of the institution, Olanrewaju AbdulKadir, for allegedly demanding ransom from the parents of his missing colleague.

The university also rusticated a 400-level student, Segun Oyewole, for beating a fellow female student.

The developments were disclosed in the weekly bulletin of the university, signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.

The university also announced the promotion of 16 of its senior academics to the rank of professor.

Their elevation, following the recommendations of the University Appointment and Promotion Committee and with the approval of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman (SAN), recognised their exceptional achievements in teaching, research, and community service.

A statement from the Office of the Registrar said that the 16 distinguished scholars were found to have excelled in the realms of teaching, research and community service.

In the breakdown of the beneficiaries of the promotion exercise, three of the new professors, John Kola Olarinoye, James Ayodele Ogunmodede, and Simeon Kayode Olubiyi, were produced by the Faculty of Clinical Sciences.

The Faculty of Education produced Prof. Abdulrahman Suyuti Omosidi, who teaches at the Department of Educational Management.

Two lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology were also elevated to the rank of professor and they are Kamorudeen Olaniyi Yusuf and Habeeb Adewale Ajimotokan.

The unveiling of 16 professors comes weeks after the university promoted 40 senior lecturers to professors.

A May 13 statement by the university Registrar said the 40 distinguished scholars were found to have excelled in the realms of teaching, research and community service.
