Both the University of Calabar (UNICAL) and the Federal University Wukari (FUWUKARI) have announced resumption dates for February.
The two universities had in separate senate meetings on Monday reached these decisions.
EduCeleb.com recalls that the federal government of Nigeria had recently approved Monday, 18th January as the resumption date for schools.
Federal universities have been particularly closed since last March as a result of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the nine month long strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that ended in December.
This announcement means that students in both universities have two more weeks to prepare for resumption.
At UNICAL, the Senate announced 5th February as its resumption date for the 2019/2020 Academic Session.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, who disclosed this to newsmen at the end of the Senate’s meeting on Monday, in Calabar, said the date was carefully chosen to give the management sufficient time to effect repairs in the hostels, vandalised during the EndSARS protests in the institution on 24th October, 2020.
“All students are to resume on February 5 while lectures will commence on Feb. 8 accordingly,” she said.
The Deputy Registrar (Academic) at FUWUKARI, Usman Sani revealed that the senate meeting concluded that the 2019/2020 academic session would continue on 1st February, 2021.
The First Semester Examination for the session was on when ASUU strike began last March.
As a result, Sani said that the remaining papers would be written from 8th to 24th February, 2021.
The second semester would however commence on 11th March.
The university enjoined every student to appear at the examination halls in their face masks as those who refuse to do so would not be allowed in.For information on Press Releases, Photos, Promotional Events and Adverts, Please Call or Send a Text to 09052129258, 08124662170 or send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
